When Is Rewinding Needed?

  1. Motor does not start/short-circuits.
  2. Burning smell or blackened windings.
  3. Excessive heat during operation.
  4. Insulation failure (wires touching).

What Is Motor Rewinding?

Motor rewinding is the process of removing burnt or damaged copper windings from an electric motor and replacing them with new coils of copper wire. It’s often done when the motor has burned windings, but the rest of the motor (rotor, stator, bearings) is still in good condition.

Motor Rewinding Steps (Simplified)

  1. Disassemble the motor by removing the rotor, end covers, and bearings.
  2. Remove old winding – cut and take out burnt copper wire.
  3. Clean stator core – remove varnish, dust, and carbon.
  4. Insert new coils – wind new copper wire according to the original gauge & turns.
  5. Insulation & varnishing – apply insulation paper and electrical varnish for protection.
